  3. Maybe because Ancient Greece and Rome had a much bigger influence on Western civilization than Mesopotamia. In my school we didn't learn about Egypt.

  4. For Westerners, the ancient Greeks and Romans are our ancestors and we've always known it. We study it because it's our own history, not foreign like ancient Sumeria.
