  1. 120 days of National Service training can teach quite a LOT actually . The " Swiss " pattern . Every Medically Fit Male in the Population gets their Basic Military Training , then goes back home , WITH A CRATE . Full of basic Kit items including a Rifle . A simple Radio and TV message can have the WHOLE Nation on a War Footing in an Hour . Now the Professional Soldiers have a Trained Militia available as Extras and LOCAL GUIDES wherever they have to go . An Excellent DEFENSIVE arrangement . I did 100 days , back in 1982 , as a Volunteer , and to this day I remember EVERYTHING I got taught . Militaries are GOOD Trainers .
