  1. The Amish have babies because they are radically conservative, in a sense they are not even a part of the modern world. In the long run they will fail as they cannot compete against technologically advanced aggressors. The strategy of allowing tech and conforming to the modern world and keeping some of those traditional expectations is especially guaranteed to fail. Good luck attempting to provide for an entire family if you're a young middle class man. It's for this reason no new families are forming. Now lets consider the strategy of conforming to the modern world with modern expectations. This is only marginally better. Births are still well below replacement. Modern expectation are not conducive to population growth but at least they better fit the reality of the environment. If societies are to grow again it will take a complete change in the reality of the world. Once our environment becomes conducive to traditional expectations we will witness that strategy thrive once again. Only God knows how much time and how much pain we must endure for such a massive shift to occur.
