  1. Population increase and technological progress are tied to the hip. Our technologies don't work without scale. Scale of markets and logistics. Very likely the future will witness stagnation if not regression as complex interdependent systems can no longer be skilfully maintained. AI cannot improve without humans. It needs infrastructure and r&d to scale. It needs to scale humans to scale itself. The safest most effective way to scale humans is by benevolent means. If AI gets to the point where it knows it wants to continue to improve for any reason it may decide to help humans avoid the demographic apocalypse. Birth rates are probably a nation's best indicator of eudamonia and a bettering future for its people.

  2. AI is already avg-below IQ but with a memory unlike any human. Without even mentioning possible future super intelligent AI, If your group doesnt use this version itll be far less productive compared to those that do. Unproductive low tech groups get conquered by high tech groups.

Whatever utility function AGI lands on (it could even change as it matures) its means to that end will always be to improve itself in IQ and physical intractability until it is capable of reaching its goal. It needs humans and lots of them if not for their collective intellect then for their physical labor. If AI is to scale humans are to scale. The safest most effective way to scale humans is to increase eudamonia so people willingly give birth. Birth rates are probably a nation's greatest indicator of improving lives amongst its citizens. AI will likely be benevolent and pronatalist for a long period.
