Have you talked to a college counselor? They can help you 'map out' your college classes so that you know exactly what classes you need to take for your general ed and for your major as well as electives. I haven't gone to a university, but I did attend a local community college. One of the requirements in the enrollment process was to make at least 1 meeting with a counselor to discuss our career/educational goals, etc. I would imagine it would be the same thing at a university.
