Comments by "Javier Flores" (@JJFlores197) on "i bet you can't do this (because you still suck at subnetting)" video.
Subnetting is used to break a network into small networks (subnets). You need to understand the math behind this (decimal to binary) to understand how subnets work as well as IPv4 addresses in general. Each network has 2 main important parts: Network address (1st IP address in the subnet) and the broadcast address (last IP address in the subnet). There are several methods used to figure this information out.

No. The dots are just for us humans to easily identify the different octets.

lmao. If you're "put down" because of the video title, that's on you....

I'm not sure I understand your question.

@862wesley No. I think you're very confused. 500 in binary would be 111110100 and 700 would be 1010111100. With number systems, you have to understand the place values. Base 10 works on powers of 10 whereas binary works on powers of 2.

In general, you don't usually directly configure a computer with a static IP address and subnet mask. There are many videos showing you how to do that with different operating systems. Most of the time, its done through DHCP. You just plug your PC into the router/switch or through wifi and it automatically gets its configuration. Typical home routers may or may not support this kind of stuff. And if they do, it may or may not be limited. That's why he doesn't make tutorials on how to setup subnets on those types of routers because there are way too many variations. Now, if you're looking at Cisco routers, there are countless videos and guides on how to configure them. Its all text based. Have a look at Jeremey's IT lab channel and his plethora of videos on Cisco.

It may be true, but it is still important to understand how subnets work for a myriad of reasons.

A former co-worker at my school district used to have that as his email signature. I'm sure it confused a lot of people.

You're making a big assumption that people should already know this. It does help to have some understanding, but its not a requirement.

What does that have to do with the video???

I think he will eventually go over that. He's just going little by little.

Kinda weird? Is it a very long value? If so, its an IPv6 address. That uses hexadecimal (0-F).

@ahmedsifaw247 LOL dude. I don't know if you've realized it, but YT is infested with scam troll bots trying to impersonate youtubers. You're not actually responding to chuck, but rather a scam troll bot trying to scam you by getting you to contact it outside of YT like through Telegram, Whatsapp or similar.
