For your first question, yes that's the basic answer. In practice, its impractical to host your own datacenter at home unless you have a lot of money, time, and expertise. It can be as simple as plug and play, but there's a fair amount of knowledge you need to safely and effectively share files. What is your backup strategy? Say one of your millions of hard drives fails, what next? How did you setup your hard drive architecture? RAID? What RAID configuration ?What file system is there? How are you dealing with user permissions and network shares? There's a lot that goes into planing file sharing.

Its possible, but you ideally need to have a solid IT background to do well in these types of jobs. Do you currently have IT experience or knowledge? Computer networking isn't exactly a beginner level IT job.

Its not really part of the CCNA course.

I strongly suggest using other resources. NWC is a good presenter, but this CCNA series is very far from being complete and it doesn't appear he will complete anytime soon. I like watching Jeremy's IT Lab. He may not be as enthusiastic as NWC, but his CCNA course on YouTube is actually complete and pretty good. Practice with PacketTracer. Its a free download, but you have to register with Cisco and enroll in their packet tracer course to get access to the software.

Its impossible to answer that first question as it depends on the device, the cabling, etc.

I bet. When I worked at a local dried fruit company, I got a brief tour of our small data-center. looking back, its nothing special but as a newbie into the IT world, it was definitely awe inspiring. Just seeing a lot of equipment on network racks not knowing what it does was amazing.
