  1. You have to understand the binary number system. Us as humans are used to base 10: 1's place; 10's place; 100's place, etc. With the 1's place, you can have any number from 0-9. If you want a larger number, you need the 100's place. That gives you 0-99 and so on. With binary, its the same concept. The main difference is that instead of going by powers of 10, you go by powers of 2: 1's place; 2's place; 4's place, etc. With just the 1's place (1 bit), you can only have 2 numbers: 0 or 1. With the 2's place, you can have 4 possible numbers: 0 (00); 1 (01); 2 (10); 3 (11) If you pause @ 11:15, you see he puts 1 & 0 on the top right lights. The 0 indicates the 1's place and the 1 indicates the 2's place.
