If you're interested in the IT field and want to get hands-on experience working with servers, its an invaluable way to do so. You can setup your own Pi-Hole adblocker server and learn how DNS works. You can setup a Windows Server environment and learn Active Directory. You can setup a media server like Plex and use it to host your own media files that anyone in your network can watch, like a personal Netflix. It just depends on your use case and willingness to learn, break stuff, fix stuff and learn some more.

  2. For most home users, a server rack is beyond overkill. Sure, it looks cool, but you have to make sure you have enough physical room to house it. You have to make sure you have adequate cooling and ventilation. If you go with server grade hardware, they can be very noisy and power hungry
