  1. T568B is more or less the standard when it comes to ethernet wiring. Straight through is used when you connect two different devices, say a switch and a computer or a switch and a game console. A cross over cable is used when you connect 2 devices of the same type, like a switch to another switch or a router to another router. However in modern devices, there's no real need for cross over cables anymore. Modern devices can auto-sense which pins are transmit and receive.
