  27. Not often I agree with Peter H, but he’s absolutely right on this issue. Privatisation was supposed to showcase ‘private sector efficiency’ and relieve tax payers of any burden. Reality sees the highest fares in Europe, train franchise monopolies being rescued by the public sector and continued tax payer subsidisation. Trains are an important part of transport infrastructure and should never have been privatised.
