And so are UK farmers - who still have their handouts out to receive the same CAP payments they were getting before they made the monumentally stupid decision to back Brexit. Truss has ensured they will pay dearly for that 'patriotic' fervour.

@D C But they haven't have they? They still getting it and will continue to get but it's been dressed up under the guise of 'managing the countryside' so that the Brexit voting electorate will continue to be be fooled.

@D C We can't compete with the sub standard practices and vast scales of Australian and US farming (and even NZ when it comes to scale of sheep farming). Few months back Johnson stood at the COP26 lectern lecturing the world whilst we make preparations to haul food from away on the plant as it's possible to get when we've got it on our doorstep - sheer lunacy.

@D C Landowners farmers all part of the Tory landscape and beneficiaries of it's Socialist largesse.....well at least until Brexit for farmers

@D C Have you been on the sauce? Not clear what your 'point' is?

@cyrilsquirrel2874 Framing practices are not the same - NZ doesn't have the space/pollution pressures, uses chemicals banned in UK and has lower regulatory regime. Also Govt supports with very active marketing. Farming is NZ's largest industry by far.

It seems that Brexiteers don't actually give a damn UK producers - all that Buy British guff was just propaganda. The free market seems to be the new mantra - I suppose if we apply the same principles to employment, the P& O seamen should just shut up. Let the race to the bottom commence - Brexit means Brexit.

Same for all of us - and some of us did not vote for the madness that is Brexit.

@Neria Wolf Really? you're not familiar with the Liz Truss decimation plan - a crap Brexit trade deal that sees farmers sold down the river? You don't think that something that will cost twice as much as Covid is relevant to a cost of living crisis?
