There is a lot of survivor bias when it comes to that. We don't see all the junk crap that didn't survive. I bet you'd find a lot of stuff in land fills that didn't last. We only see all the stuff that either people took damn good care of, or the rare item that did last. If you want something to last? Stop buying crap items. Also consumers want newer, and better things. More features. More compact. Lighter. More powerful. It all comes at a cost. Few buy for over engineered and reliable things. They buy off TEMU, FFS. Many products like electronics are made to only last X years for sure. Due to the fact it is really hard to make things all these new technologies last, and because they will be obsolete within a few years. Last but not least. Things were WAY more simpler decades ago then today. Anyway with that said screw planned obsolesence! Wish we had laws against that. Anyway vote with your wallet..

Appliances are way cheaper than what your parents paid for. Less efficent. Plus they were heavier, and didn't have this or that. There are brands out there that have quality products. You just have to find that. Suvivorship bias is a huge issue too. I laugh when people say cars for instance aren't as reliable. That is just BS. They are however costlier to repair.
