@tyes77 Same thing can be said about the myriad of democracies. I mean SA and Africa are full of other forms of governments that are either worse then some dictatorships if not worse. Hopefully it will be the next Singapore.

@averagejoey2000 Swiss helped the Nazis with loans, and materials. Selling essential war goods to me is not neutral. Neither is taking valuables which happened to be Jewish. Not judging. Just saying. Sweden helped Nazis too with iron ore specifically. Quite honestly it is nearly impossible to be neutral unless you're a remote island country.

I know a few white peoole who said they fled due to racism. Said when it came to employment black people had prescendence. What is sad is one of them was real young! He had nothing to do with apartheid, and was genuinely a good person. Anyway it is depressing to me that SA has gone down hill. I remember learning about it out of my own curiosity back in 2006ish, and being genuinely happy there was a first world, developed country, in Africa. Let us hope they get back on their feet somehow. It reminds me of what happened to Brazil.

I was just talking with someone about negativity bias in a fictional universe. There is a sci-fi book/game called 40k. By all means it is a horrible place to live in. Yet even in that universe as apeshit insane as it is many people live happy lives and some fans forget that. No one picks up 40k to read about Bobus and his wife. Why would the writers put out a book about that? People would be furious. So people think the government destroys their own planets without thought which isn't true. Anyway thought it was interesting that it can carry over to fictional universes too. Wish I had a better example as that setting is really F'ed up.

@azpont7275 Well America sucks at building ships, period. South Korea is a beast at it. We should work with them, but contractors would get pissed. Those ships were just... Ahead of their time I think. If they started developing something similar now? It would have been great. Also politicians flip flopping on say the Zumwalt made the ammo for the gun which was great too expensive to use. Defense industry price gouging. My real worries is that China and Russia get more for the buck, and pay their people less. The CCP are driven and focused, and the government since so few hold power can shift on a dime. Democracies inherently are slow. We are so polarized too. We don't have strong or good leaders. Where is our JFK or even Regan(charisma wise, not policy). We need to stop fighting over petty things like gender identity, or gun laws, or immigrants. In fact we should embrace immigrants and allow the educated, intelligent ones to come here to lend their ideas and expertise. That is one thing America still has - the best WANT to come here. Who the hell wants to immigrate to China or Russia as their first choice? I think the Left and Right citizens agree we need to get money out of politics. I'm afraid our greed, infighting, and short term sightedness without a clear agenda will cost us this cold war. Luckily we have allies to help. People forget the entire west profits off of America's actions. Their companies do anyways.

Mexico should be a given. Places like Argentina and Brazil should be economic power houses. Crazy that they aren't to me but as an American I hope they do! India should be too... Also I've seen videos much like this on the Phillipines and Indonesia. Which js surprising as those are island nations which to me always feel like are resource poor but it is changing fast! I would like to see more peaceful balance in the world and definitely don't want a new, new, world order dictated by the CC P. Edit- I said the Phillipines but I meant Vietnam. A lot of people are talking about it becoming big in cheap manufcaturing as China economy and demographics mature.

We really don't like our government, and like to air anything and everything that is wrong with it. Yet I am lucky to be in America. South Africa, and the way I hear it is just depresses the hell out of me. I think it is due to how great it was becoming when I first learned about it like twenty years ago. A country in Africa that will be on par with a country in Europe?! Effin awesome. Cool military vehicles. Best looking! Hah. Now it is like headlines of nothing good. "South Africa won't have water. No power for hospitals. Will only get worse before it gets better." That really sucks to hear. No. Foreign workers go there knowing what will happen. I don't buy it in today's day, and age Filipinos are that ignorant to know what is going on there. They choose it upon themselves, because it is better. The conditions just aren't typical western. I still don't like it, but if I go to you looking for work. You set the contract. I accept it. I have no right to go complaining. The whole keeping passport thing. That needs to stop. The wage? Well we can't be responsible for everyone's woes.

Yeah and subs have the best food from all the branches I'm told. The USN definitely knows it and does Its best. It is funny as anytime I see a submarine documentary there is ALOT of emphasis on the food. From cramming as much in the nooks and crannies to the moral of the crew. Even the top brass put special emphasis on the food due to the moral. Fuckers were served like royalty at their own private chambers haha and had special pizza. Was like damn imagine being an officer and not getting invited to that table. I want to try their pizza. Heard its good.

@MandoMonge Pretty sure some of the workers make a lot more than what they can at home. One worker told me one time an American tipped him daily for something minor, and it was like getting a month salary each time. We are talking about 10/20$. Think he was from Thailand. Absolutely loved the job it seemed. So keep that all in mind. Not saying their are cruel practices and all that. There are places in the world where people can't get any job.

@daniel11111 You're talking about two different things. Military spending definitely has a lot of benefits. Creates high paying jobs, security, protects global US and allied interests, and more importantly a lot of the technology gets kick backed into modern life. In a perfect world we would do both but for whatever reason the US is garbage at large scale infrastructure projects especially when it starts crossing state lines. I blame politics personally. Our government has some serious flaws. It is slow to move and we can't just bulldoze houses and kick people out to create them either.

Change won't happen overnight. Sadly the cartels have so much power there from what some who lived there tell me. Getting worse in many ways since the violence to innocence can be unreal and the local government is either too weak to do much or corrupted themselves. "Before it was gang on gang violence. Now you can be killed just because someone can". I know this has also stopped investors. Yet as an American I want more stability and peace on our side of the world period. Mexico, Brazil, and especially Argentina should be up there in the most powerful and successful countries. I have high hopes that will happen in my life time.

Listen there is a difference between being racist and being smart. It's a sad truth but most terrorists are Arabic and Isreal has entire groups of people who want them all dead. The issue though is when people act on their prejudice and won't look past their stereotypes. Yet if you look like a bum, a slut, a thug, KKK member, and sketchy? Expect people to judge you because that is how you present yourself. I can't blame Isreal and good for them to not apologize for it. If I were Arabic I wouldn't blame them either. Aviation fuel once going I hear is really hard to put out like diseal. Turns out flying will always have risks. I do hope to see some taxi air copters before I die.

I hope I can get a liver and kidney transplant. I might not ever get a chance since I'm having issues gaining weight. I understand why my liver failed. I don't completely understand why my kidneys decided to just stop working for whatever reason even though last time checked they looked perfectly healthy with blood flow.

So you have a total of 100 crimes right? Now a politician makes selling and using drugs legal... Bam next time the statistics is used it looks like they suddenly cut crime in half! It is a miracle! The person was saying if you take out gun suicide for gun deaths it changes the statistic dramatically. Which is true as most gun deaths are suicide related. People manipulate statistics all the time TBH. Have to be real careful since they can be technically true but paint a different picture. Context is the most important aspect! PS - damn I hate insurance companies.

@LK-pc4sq Exactly density is the issue. If we pop out a billion more people than rail looks appealing. Also cheap labor. The Chinese government has accures nearly 1 trillion in debt I guess from the lines and some aren't being used like they should although I'm not sure if that is due to Covid or it was happening before hand. Honestly just make a coast line one. No reason places like Boston, NYC, Philly, DC can't have one and maybe down to FL hitting up Atlanta etc. Phily to Chicago. China does have the population density to pull it off but let's see if they can keep maintaining the lines. Americans still want the golden dream of having their own house as well. I would be happy with just freaking local networks being improved.

No different than some asses car or delivery truck. Common noises are easy to tone out after a while. Trust me I'm new on dialysis and getting use to the 30 machines beeping all the time. One time I took my headphones off and there was no noise as I was the last person there and holy hell the silence almost hurt. I would be more worried about them falling out of the sky. Or people just messing with them. I actually uhh don't know how loud drones are that are large enough to carry useful loads TBH... Don't mind my comment, but surely there are ways to make them quieter?

If they want a rail built? It doesn't matter if your village is ancient and your family has lived on the same land for centuries - you're in the way- oh and they'll flood the neighboring valley for that dam at the same time.

@Homer-OJ-Simpson Saw an article saying it will excel in the tech industry in the future I'm wondering if that is what I meant. I don't see it making computer chips anytime soon from the big ones. Europe, China, America, South Korea, Japan, and of course Taiwan. I should've read the article but was busy. Hardware specifically is a pretty tough and competitive industry where cheap labor doesn't always mean success. Anyway love the people even though their leader is eccentric and crazy AF to me haha. Hope them the best... Grew up with a lot of Filipinos and love them and know many there are still incredibly poor. Half of the staff at my dialysis clinic are Filipino and they are lovely but it is sad to hear what their families go through if they don't send them money.

@ArawnOfAnnwn Vietnam and China seem to have a complicated relationship from what I've read. Basically everyone has a better relationship than the US and China of late haha. China blames the US for what they are doing in the South China sea thst is pissing off countries like the Phillipines, Japan, India, South Korea, sometimes Singapore. A lot of Anti Chinese sentiment is growing. A lot of mistrust. Not saying America is any better. Anyway forgot what video I was on. America definitely needs to improve relationships in SA. I want to see SA get a world power in my life time. Brazil and Argentina both dropped the ball.

Sure blame the politicians. I'm sure they are a part of it, but so are the people in those towns too. They would fight tooth and nail to keep their life style. Where the true ignorance happens is that they literally blame everyone else for their situation. I've had one guy literally say it is 'you city slickers" that ruined this town. Whatever the hell that means. They were ignorant and too proud. The world moved on, but they wanted to hang onto it, and blame others. Honestly I feel no pity to people who refuse to move onto greener pastures.

@Gunni1972 If Britain fell the USSR would have been toast. Not only did the western front take up huge amount of resources, but the US was giving MASSIVE amounts of war goods to Russia via UK. The amount of goods is astonishing considering the US was also bulking up the UK and fighting Japan. Then include the systematic destruction of German industrial capabilities via massive bombing raids that razed entire cities to the ground. Russia definitely did a good job and the majority of the work. Yet they had a ton of invaluable help from the west. Hitler's biggest mistake was starting war before silencing the UK. Then the second mistake was declaring war on the US in December. Also huge swathes of German military men fled to the west to surrender. Can't blame em.

I think they are forgetting cultue has a huge impact as well. South Korea, and Japan are a great example of countries just exploding due to their culture drive, and hitting above their weight. Same with Singapore. Almost like they had a singular purpose. Japan, during the 80s or 90s was killing it economically. America even feared they'd take the number 1 spot! China is a great example of a turn around as their government kept it down for so long. Then you look at Africa, and all the culture clashes as in tribal warfare, or corruption. They can't get along for a moment to set aside their differences, and I for one don't blame colonization anymore for it. I think they were colonized BECAUSE they couldn't put aside their differences, nor invest the wealth they do have. So many countries in Africa became wealthy due to the slave trade too, and none of them reinvested that wealth when the industrial revolution came around. I'm not really sure what is going on with South America. I suppose corruption. Brazil and Argentina should be power houses. Also in the 21st century you really don't need to grow a staple crop to succeed. Yet yeah, add in brain drain to that equation as well. Anyway stability is the number one thing a country needs to succeed.

Problem is two fold. Can they keep up on it and with their debt overblowing especially for their rail lines (nearing a trillion I guess) it remains to be seen. Yet they have the population density to really make it work.

They literally are in debt with many projects from building projects that was never required. All for fake economic growth. Then you have tofu dreg construction issues causing things that are built to be considered unsafe so they are useless. Also lying or corruption in China is huge. Government loves to save face from the lowest echelons all the way to the highest. They like to lie so their districts are doing better then they are. Or flat out refuse to give any negative information like unemployment rates. I think China is too big to fail or fall, and will continue to grow at a much much slower rate. Which sucks for those in the remote villages. Difference between the West and China is the west admits its faults. While the Chinese will pollute 80% of the ground water, and say everything is healthy, or make food with sewer oil! Also Xi is no Deng. Deng was an amazing leader who didn't alienate China.

You've never left the country then. Dude there are countries where you have to pay up front for any emergency or get your ass to the doctors. America has no insurance! Oh yeah we do it just depends on your state. I get free insurance and short of being able to choose my doctors I'm all covered. I need a transplant and I'm about to move to PA to get on yayr over there as their doctors are amazing and sadly my current insurance will only allow me to go to a shitty hospital that keeps turning me down on the list.

Electric planes have an easier time being made for STOL or even VTOL. We already have companies trying to design "air taxis". If Airbus or Boeing got behind it. I'm sure they could make a decent bus sized plane that could haul passengers with a very short runway. Of course batteries, and super capacitators need to get better. I say capacitators, because I hear they are incredible useful for flight on having extreme power for certain aspects like take off. Anyway that is the way I see it all going forward. Still think we should focus in high speed rails for dense areas.

I was just talking about price grouging in the defense industry. It is insane honestly how a Stinger can cost more even if you include inflation. Or what some parts cost that can be made much cheaper for the same quality. We should be able to produce them and other technologies for Wal Mart prices damn it. How does decades old tech get more expensive? We are going to lose to China. We cannot compete with their sheer numbers. Their military gets more for each dollar spent. They pay their soldiers and vets much less. The contractors bend to the government, and not the other way around. If you actually compare purchasing power parity I think it is called - America and China actually spending similar amounts. America needs FOCUS. We need to stop being greedy or else Russia and China will win this cold war. Do not underestimate China as they will surely surpass us in ways, and some say they already have. One key strength of America of Russia and China is no one wants to live or be assimilated there. We should be making it easier for educated, specialized, and motivated people to come here from all over the world to live. Yet we make it difficult for many - especially Indians or Indonesians. Basically countries with a backlog of X many cannot come here. To those who complain about aliens coming here, and taking your "jobs"? Well you have to earn a job damn it, and may the best win. I am ranting. I just hate how... Polarized and unfocused our country is. I want to see us be the best we can be, and I think since the boomer era we have made progress, but lost some good qualities that made America powerful in the first place. We need some charismstic younger leaders that are not just frail like Biden or batshyte insane like Trump.

If I were a billionaire I would design a blimp that is also my luxurious house/base so I could soar over all the filthy peasants below me! Randomly dopping stacks of 100$ bills over cities that scatter into the air, laughing at the chaos from above with all the poor people rampaging to grab them. Okay JP, maybe Yet living in a blimp, traveling across the world with all the amenities would just be better than these town sized yachts. Just drinking a coffee with the sun rising floating in the clouds.... Worth the cost!

I would like more well written on how shipping works. Especially on the Merchant Marines of the world! They way they work today, their usefulness, and their issues that they will face. Hell how one even becomes one and slight walk over on their very underrated history. I've only got tidbits from WWII and they were targeted more than warships in the Atlantic!

They are suppose to make a profit that's why which is ridiculous. Also population density is a huge issue compared to Europe and China among our "I like having a car so I have freedom" mentality. The way I see it? Trains I've ridden aren't even close to full on many routes. If they lowered the fucking price maybe more people would use them.

Well if the building was doing nothing then what is the purpose outside of wasting someone's money and not being productive land? Sorry I love history but it is a damn drug store. One that was apparently empty. Did it have investors to keep it in good shape? If not then definitely tear it down and build something productive instead of leaving it up for nostalgia. Let new generations have a new shiny gas station instead of a run down one. I could see if there are plans but mindsets like that is why towns drown.
