  1. Yeah I think that is the reason. Burning never was. Pencils are not THAT flammable. Maybe the shavings? Anyway they wouldn't use a wooden pencil. Would've been mechanical from the get go. Yet as you say the tiny graphite shavings floating around would be an issue. At least liquids attract to each other in no gravity(micro gravity?)
