@colonel-klink14 I think they decided because the airframes are aging and technology has progressed so much in twenty years. Instead of having to spend the huge capital to jumpstart the manufacturing of it they decided to spend it on a newer one. I know they won't give any information but hopefully that one stealth ceramic that is much more durable, lasts longer, withstand extreme hot and cold temperatures while absorbing more is being used. From what I understand they've made and tested it. It just needs to figure out how to manufacture it en masse and worked with I guess.

@generalrendar7290 Wonder why RAM are so expensive. They using some type of polymer made out of rhodium and magnetically locked Americium-241 because, fuck it, MERICA !CAW! for extra protection! Haha seriously though. Let's hope that newer Ceramic RAM does what they say it can and not bleed it dry for every penny. The cost per flight hour per aircraft has always been astounding to me.

@justiron2999 Tanks don't fly out of the sky from a microfracture. You can just get it towed back to base. I think you're replying to my comment on mothballing the older F15s? It has to be worth the cost of maintenance as mothballing does cost money. I personally think there could be better uses for em but I'm just a dude behind a computer. Wish YT would show me what you were replying to.

@fatdoi003 Nah they are building new F-15EX. Keyword is building as the older frames reach their service life. (Wonder if we mothball them because theoretically they may still be able to be fixed? Keep parts still able to be used? Sell them to desperate countries? Scrap?)

@justiron2999 Yeah or sell them to countries that are willing to have older airframes and possibly recycle the money for an other aircraft. Give them to the USMC haha. I have read we cannot recreate the B1-b pivot joint. I call pure BS on that. I bet we could do better even with newer production and material processes. It's a shame that beauty is going though as now the closest thing to a low altitude supersonic bomber is our strike fighters. Then again maybe we don't need super heavy bombers at all with prescicion guided weapons and Bombs like the CBU. Project Mayhem is in the works and I've read the AF is considering a program for the F16.

Why do we spend so much on fighters... I don't understand our obsession. Long gone are the days of 1,000s of aircraft in the huge swarms until drone Swarms with AI become a thing. I am glad we are not sitting on our laurels but why not invest in some other airframes. Rapid Dragon I think it's called seems like a cool concept. How about a new A10. A cheap armored tank that can loiter and support troops. I saw a video of a gunship concept that was interesting. Think of a decently sized aircraft that can rain 155mm shells miles out of view using balastic computers to aim. Why use shells? Cost. It would have the ability to loiter a hundred miles out and fire at sectors and could get to hotspots in a jiff. Rugged enough to be near front line strips, simple to maintain, and nothing fancy. Just literally a flying artillery piece. Pair it with a recon drone and watch sectors go to hell.
