@1968gadgetyo I have read in theroy they can. The Osprey got a bad wrap and isn't anymore dangerous than any other helicopters. The problem is the amount of lives those crashes did have. The media and politicians ate it alive and it's sad that tilt rotors have a stigma associated with them due to it. Blackhawk was known for accidents too. I recommend Sandboxx video on the subject. We will see if it is a good craft or not, and time will tell.

Tilt rotor has speed which means more survivability as well. The thing is nearly just as fast and can already fly it's self. Large front print and armament location are definitely the only downsides to it.

@chrisdoe2659 Haters going to hate. They'll say anything but that guy wasnt hating. Yeah a coaxial pusher prop helicopter with a special suspension to not shake it's self apart is so much less complicated than a tilt rotor. Give me a break. The Osprey has an average record of crashes comparable to other aircraft like the Blackhawk. Surprising I know! Those crashes sadly did have a lot of people on board though, but the media and politicians used it for their own agendas. The myth that tilt rotors are unsafe will never die just like the F 35 can't take on 4 5g fighters. The media grabs a hold, people read the short article, and it's forever burnt into their minds.

@Matt-yg8ub Have you not seen the tests of it performing a landing mid transformation? It literally can land and take off while transitioning at the same time. Meaning it can do it with forward airspeed and without the roto being either fully up or fully down. It legit does the same maneuvers as any other helicopter. It is a sitting duck just like any other helicopter is while going to land. I've seen videos of both craft doing maneuvers and I honestly don't see that much of a agility advantage of the Defiance.

@angryox3102 The speed and especially range didn't make it a good choice for ya? I mean I know tilt rotors get an unfairly bad wrap but short of the footprint the Valor beats the Defiant in nearly every way. The footprint is the biggest downside. As far as maintenance goes I don't really see how a co-axial pusher prop helicopter is any less complicated even with a rigid design. I heard they had a lot of problems with the vibrations and Sikorsky had to make some special type of suspension for it. I would love to see the transmission, clutch, and gearing on both craft!

@ossgo92 Nah they'll continue to find ways to crap on the Valor. Some guy told me it can't land... Like what? Or that it has to transform completely up or front before it can do any forward movement. It has a bigger footprint and that's the only disadvantage. Curious to see where weapons will be mounted. Doors and belly - someone said they will do interrupter gears for wing mounted but I seriously doubt that.

@Matt-yg8ub I don't trust Boeing either. Hate the politics. Sure the videos released for both craft showing off will always look good. Look I have no love for Lockheed. I hate the politics involved involved in anything but especially when it comes to arms procurement and the whole industrial military complex. But I can only judge on what I've seen on videos and the Valor looks good. Neither of us are involved in either program and I have yet to read any issues regarding the Valor. While the Defiant did have some issues (from not being able to use an engine to rotors). So time will tell but I think the military made the right choice. PS for some reason the wiki says Lockheed is involved in the Valor... Yet Lockheed owns Sikorsky.

@chiazamlife4159 People are going to hate it because it's a tilt rotor, and find every damn excuse from bribes to safety records to demonish the aircraft. Osprey has a similar safety record to other helicopters however the crashes did involve large amounts of people. People are saying it's too complex. Like a contra rotating coaxial pusher prop helicopter is freaking simple. Even though it's rigid I hear the Defiant has a very complex gearbox, and suspension system due to the sheer amount of vibrations the design has. What are the dimensions of both? I can't find them anywhere. Online states the Valor is about 25m in width. Also read the Defiant is 11m in height. I think both are wrong.

Yup tilt rotors are the future boys! Helicopters will still have a place but the maximum speed limit is soon upon us. Wonder how fast a tilt rotor can go. I mean we still haven't reached WWII fighter speeds yet. Surely at least that fast no? One thing... I thought the Defiant at top cruise speed flew like a gyrocopter? Using the rotors only for extra lift with no power added? It still suffers from retreating blade stall then ehm Someone told me that... Speaking of issues with rotors. Do tilt rotors suffer from vortex ring state?

@deanfowlkes Were you telling me or asking a question? I think it still causes drag and dysemmtry of lift. I can't find any literature on it for that question or vortex ring state either.

@butspan7618 Less complicated? You ever see a print out of a contra rotating coaxial pusher helicopter?! I seen a diagram of a Russian one and it was complex even though it wasn't the whole assembly. Even though it's rigid rotor I hear the Defiant uses some special suspension because the rotors were shaking the thing apart. Well something along the lines of that. Lockheed says the Valor is much simpler maintenance wise compared to the Osprey but I'll take their words with a grain of salt. Fact is tilt rotors have the similar safety records as other rotory aircraft and the media and politicians used the Osprey for their agendas. I'll concede it was an expensive project and the cost of lives per crash was large, but it is an amazing heavy lift transport that basically outperforms anything else. Just uh it has a tendency to destroy landing pads, lawns, decks and set things on fire.

@glennridsdale577 I read 11m but can't verify that statement. It is very tall medium helicopter but over 30 feet?! That sounds a bit too tall to me. I can't find dimensions on either craft TBH. Like the width of the Valor or Defiant. I do know the light attack scout program has a requirement to be 40m and less.
