  1. We take it for granted but salt was insanely important/is essential especially before refridgeratoon. It was worth it's weight in gold, literally. People were paid in salt hence the phrase "not worth his salt." Someone figured it out by probably tasting or seeing it and put two and two together. Edit it's Potassium chloride BTW which is insane tasting. I have have had to take it due to low potassium and Jesus it's like crack haha. It's ironic as I have liver and kidney failure and have to be careful. Trust me the stuff is strong.
