Pattern welding or Damascus steel knives actually can be better if made correctly. You can have both a hard and tough blade. A lot of effort and skill required though and I'm sure a pure super alloy is probably better in many ways. I'm just pointing out the fact you can use very different metals for different traits can be beneficial.

@Sapiens_Imperialis Yeah I hear they are a real real pain in the ass to work with haha. I just don't know what this means! Longer to grind and such? Easier to ruin the entire thing like cracks. Or losing the properties that make it so special? Wonder if its even worth it. If I had the cash and wasn't dying I would want to learn how to make blades for a hobby. Make my own sword one day - nothing stupid fancy. Just a blade that is balanced, with a solid edge that doesn't chip easily and enough flexibility to not shatter. (Not like the cheap wall hangers). Start with grinding knives and work my way up.
