Why? It is salt. Paying for charity? Paying extra to watch someone toil like their ancestors did is just ridiculous. If their salt is somehow better and cannot be replicated any other way? Sure! I am all for paying extra for a product that is better and appreciate the work. Yet let us face it. There is absolutely nothing special about their salt outside it isn't processed. They can use technology and save their bodies to get the same product. Probably even a more consistent product because ya not relying on if his damn feet are sore and wounded on a bad day to smash the damn salt! Foot salt ancestors realized they didn't have to boil the water and could produce more by using the sun. They were willing to change. We all should be like them instead of saying folks should appreciate their hard work more because they expect more. I don't pity those who are stubborn to change.

Nearly all caves and mines or such are around that tempature as long as air flow is present! Usually much colder during the summer and hotter during the winter! I was told just average the tempature of a place all year long. Then if you go into a cave it will usually be around that tempature with some exceptions. Cellars and basements also sit around that tempature. Just depends on how well insulated a place is! I do know the deeper you go the hotter it gets due to geological phenomenon. Like the diamond caves in Africa or the Crystal Caves in South America are just unbearably hot. Then there was one cave that this guy told me about that was exceptionally cold due to some underground rivers bringing in glacier cold water which cooled them down. Most important thing about caves is airflow. Some can be stifling.

@fukkitful ah yes. Let me fire back stereotypes. Must be an ignorant person living in a third world country justifying living in their own filth. Funny how people will crap on America but are the first to cry for medical assistance from first world countries as disease wipes them out due to poor hygiene. You do realize there is a hell a lot more crap on a human foot then just dirt. Or that dirt by its very definition has loads of things like parasites, fungus, bacteria, and other things that can kill ya. At least we actually do know what is in the salt we buy. People are just ignorant of the process but you can easily all search for yourself. Now unlike things that are regulated no one knows what the hell is in that dirt - could have heavy minerals and other natural things like arsenic. Hey lead has a unique flavor- use to be used as a sweetener. Maybe thats what gives it the special flavor? Who knows because it isn't tested now is it.

Yes he needs to modernize ASAP. I don't feel bad for those few people who think people should pay extra because they are keeping some tradition alive. "People don't appreciate this salt more." Well make your product better taste wise or mineral wise... Don't expect people to pay more for something that isn't really unique. Just because you work hard days compared to someone with a machine just doesn't change the quality of the product. What the hell is up with the fact they cannot sell their land to outsiders though... That is messed up. I'm willing to pay extra for a better product. Not paying extra for those who are stubborn to change - His ancestors switched methods from boiling the water to using the sun... He should too. This goes for all products. Quality > Tradition. (Unless religious beliefs are forcing ya.)

@mrcat5508 Shit even American farmers are struggling with modernizing. Doesn't need to modernize. They can sell direct to consumer now online. I have seen and read about other farmers who accomplished it. The ones I don't are held back by their greedy governments who think ten people with shovels is good employment. Or in most cases getting manhandled by corrupt local businessmen who feed the corruption on a local and state level.
