They didn't invest into financial institutions like banks, nor their people. Europeans legimately created deep ocean navigation essentially to bypass Ottomon shenanigans, because they controlled the trade routes to Asia. First by going around Africa. Then around the world. Europeans then started colonizing. That is when things took off. They reached Asia. Found the New World. Plundered it. Reinvested into technology. Modern Arabs from the oil rich countries just splurge. Waste their money on showing off like Kings of old.
