It comes from the competition among the many European States who were huddled together in a limited space with limited resources. Hard times made strong men. Those States came about as a result from migrations westward fleeing the threats of Central Asia. At a certain point the migrations from no 'man's land', Central Asia fixated its direction westward. This was a dominies effect caused by China/Mongol empire. The previous westward series of mass migrations were caused by the Huns who went westward but also southward to India. Interesting how migrations are once more working their way westward but this time, the West (actually) welcomes them due to the demographic issues, which in fact plague most developed countries, China being one of the few exceptions. The competition among them is still felt today and it's legacy of the British and US empires are a continuation of that. The US will end this legacy, gradually, imo.

@snowlee-ml7rr the population of Central Asia was always small because they were constantly being replaced. That's why it is a kind of 'no-man's land'. Migrations have gone in both directions but it is logical that ultimately the eastern most side would start the dominos westward. Why? Simply because they have 1 less flank to worry about. You can see parallels with the Arab expansion. Meanwhile, the eastern most nomads (Mongols) had centuries of experience fighting civilizations specifically in this case, China and vice versa.

@michaelmarchal4004 China did cause a general westward migration of the tribes from the Central Asian steppes. That area throughout history went either west or east. How did they do it? By defending themselves from their aggression. Why did the Huns migrate westward ND southward? What were they running away from? What were they looking for? What was the impact of their migrations? It's a simple concept which you skipped over because you think you are smarter than you are. Typical of 110-120 iq and lower.

@michaelmarchal4004 another interesting rinse and repeat of history is how precious metals namely gold is migrating eastward again. They've found ancient Roman coins as far as Japan. Obviously these coins are purer than the increasingly watered down coins they produced later. This is also related to the migrations. A 3rd corollary, and arguably the root is that the money printing and growth of a new and powerful political class emerged from the military. In Roman times, they were the Praetorians. They further destabilized the empire just as the US Military is destabilizing the US. You could argue that the politicians they have in their pockets are also Praetorians. They are a class who serve themselves. After them, the elites became transnationals hopping from Venice to Netherlands to England and finally to the US. The same transnationals for millennia. They know China very well, but not well enough it seems. They didn't heed Napoleon's warning.

@snowlee-ml7rr the pendulum swings back and forth. You can see it clearly esp. in Europe where there is the most diverse group of nations in a concentrated area with relatively limited resources. It was inevitable that they grew in sophistication in all areas relative to the East. They exploded onto the world map even as a process of competing with each other. The pendulum swings back and forth. We're witnessing it again currently. It is perhaps the last? New technologies have nullified this pendulum. Hopefully now, we will grow past the zero sum game of empires. Personally, I think it is the Europeans and not the Americans who will be the last to learn this. I could be wrong? Just my opinion.

@swee78 Demographic crisis points to an economic crisis. China is in neither. They have MASSIVE surplus, they are only 60% urbanized, as opposed to 90%, they will urbanize another 280 million in thf next 10-15 years, they have already a much higher ppp than the US about 30%, they are not in a massive debt trap like the US, etc etc etc and they do attract more and more immigrants as it is better to live there. There, simplified it for you. Obviously China has no crisis whatsoever. It's in a boom.

@swee78 China will not decline. It will continue to grow...a lot. Take this w a grain of salt and do your research. If you look at the bigger picture, China is hardly in any crisis...esp economic. They have massive (growing yoy) trade surpluses, they will further urbanize 280 million people. Think of what those ghost cities are for. They have no where near the debt that other developed countries have. They don't have a crisis with economic ties, which are only increasing. Their ppp, a Western measurement already exceeds that of the US by 30%. It is a giant. It will be a giant even compared to the US and in many respects already is. Do your research. A good start is to look at their cities, infrastructure. You'll see immediately that we've been fed lot's of garble in regards to China.

@ZhenYae They did it twice in history at least indirectly. By defending themselves against the northern tribes, they created a mass migration westward that cracked the Roman empire. The second was the Mongol empire which was not really consequential for Europe except that it helped unify the Rus. The end of the Mongol empire itself was very consequential and you can see it at present. They left a vast vacuum for countries like China, Russia, and even Iran to take over. Ironies of history as the pendulum swings back and forth. The east-west pendulum will not swing anymore. No more zero-sum geopolitics.
