  8.  @kurtwicklund8901  do you know anything about Borodino? Let me explain. It was the bloodiest battle of the Napoleonic war. Napoleon admitted that battles gave him a rush. This one gave him nightmares. The Russians withdrew with reasonably heavier losses than the French so it was considered a French victory. Why did the Russians offer this pitched battle out of the blue? It was to ensure Napoleon comitted himself all the way to Moscow. At the end of the battle, he was in a real pickle. Advance and lose his army to the winter wasting precious months? Or retreat which would make him look weak to Europe, to his troops, basically signalling the war was lost. The difference with this and Borodino? The Russians are losing much less troops with a much smaller army. Do you smell anything? The Russians did the same to the Germans at the battle of Moscow. The Germans thought they had a chance to take it. The Russians ked them on but made them fight for every inch providing just enough reinforcements for the Germans to slowly grind forward. When the arrived to Moscow, in the nick of time, a contingent of fresh special forces finally halted their advance. While the Germans had high hopes to take Moscow, the Russians all along the German approach knew the Germans lost the war. The Germans would learn not much later. This was in winter of 1941-1942 and the war would go on for another 3.5 years.
