Fryazino - the origin of Russian electronics industry, where the vacuum tube production started in the 1930-ies, then the production lines from RCA were brought in and assembled before Soviet Union was recognized by the United States. Then after the Second World War this was the town where hundreds of German engineers worked re-creating their pre-war research and pulling Russian electronics from the dark ages. It is the place where the first equipment for the 625-line television standard was developed (how many people know that the 625-line standard has been developed in the Soviet Union?). But nothing about that in this video, just gray sov-block buildings, rutted roads and rusted suburban trains. Oh, and the church, how quaint.
