  1. Something similar happened in the Soviet Union. "Stalinist baroque" buildings had a lot of ornamentation. In 1955, Nikita Khruschev condemned the "excesses" of the past. His speech coincided with the start of a nation-wide program to building new affordable mass-produced housing. Some buildings that had been almost completed by that time, ended up with one side having ornamentation and another side being bare. Soviet mass-produced housing borrowed so much from Bauhaus that I wonder why this is not mentioned more often.
