The building man/hours required were perfectly comparable to those of contemporary US aircrafts.

@MiG-31893 Spit V - Macchi C.202 - Reggiane Re.2001 - Bf109F Spit IX - Macchi C.205 - G.55 - Re.2005 - Bf109G. The G.55 was used for the first time in action over Sardinia in May 1943. It was the third prototype (MM493), the first armed with 3 20mm cannons. It claimed a B-26 in collaboration on June 5, then a P-40 on June 26. In July the 353 squadron was transferred to Rome, The G.55 claimed several other aircrafts (two P-38 and one B17) before the armistice.

They had very similar performances. The G.55 was the easiest to manufacture, and the better armed (one 20mm gun more than the C.205 and same number than the Re.2005, but with more ammos).
