The Grand Vizir to the Sultan: "We have weakened them sir!" The Sultan: "How?" The Grand Vizir: "They got old!"

"You made me believe the city was teneable!" "It had been for 20 years infact."

After 2 months of siege the Austrians got the Winged Hussars, and after 20 years of siege the Venetians got the French. Life is unfair sometines.

15 Years later he captured the Peloponnese from the Ottomans and held it for 14 years, occupying the same Athen for two years. It had been a Venician cannonball fired in that occasion that made the powder magazine the Ottomans put in the Parthenon explode. It's said that Morosini, informed about the "unfortunate" event commented "Unfortunate? I hit it with the first shot!"

You did born in a city under siege, and grow up to become one of the defenders on the walls.

@slome815 Tell that to the Ottomans.

@martinturtak4901 It had been defended for two decades at that point. And the Ottomans were not in a better position than the year before.
13
@remizome He attacked without even trying to gain a real knowledge of the terrain before. In 20 years the defenders made multiple sorties, but none ended so badly.

@stefanocamoni229 At Malta the most attack-minded captain was the Italian Vincenzo Anastagi, in charge of the cavalry, and the most defense-minded, the same La Valette.

Someone born in the first years of the siege had all the time to become one of the defenders on the walls.

Simply the dimensions of the island. It was impossible to block it completely, that's why they preferred to block the Dardanels. Despite that being more dangerous, since they were closer to the Ottoman main base.

With the Venicians.

They are NOW. See "little ice age".

Morosini was a military commander AND a politician and, as a politician, he had enemies, and those enemies blamed the fact that he signed a treaty with the Ottomans without having the formal power to do so (even if the treaty was an advantage for Venice compared with the simple surrender of the garrison of Candia).

There are different opinions, since many doesn't consider that of Ceuta a single siege.

With the Venicians.

Already in classic time. It became paramount with the use of gunpowder.
2
The Venetians won all the major naval clashes. Sometimes sea battles where they were outnumbered 10/1 turned into Ottoman's slaughters. That's why the siege lasted for so long.
2
When someone was sold into slavery, oftentimes it was sold back to the Ottomans.

@Funk5Punk And it was colder then.

Ceuta, if you consider it a single siege, so there are discordant opinions.

Who did born in the city in the first years of the siege, had all the time to became one of the defenders.

The first siege of Ceuta lasted 26 years.

The Venetian fleet was in control of the sea. It won all the major naval clashes of the war with ridicolous ease. Problem was that Venice couldn't station a fleet around Crete 24/7/365, so they couldn't prevent the Ottomans to be supplied as well.

The Venetian fleet was in control of the sea (it won all the major naval clashes of the war with ridicolous ease), so there were no problems in supplying the city, but obviously that drained the resources of the Republic.
