It will probably become endemic, like the swine flu. 2)In case of viruses, natural selection favours the milder strains, the ones that don't kill the host (the virus of common cold, or the papillomavirus, are higly successful human viruses). Spanish flu had been an exception, because the conditions in the trenches selected the most dangerous strain but, not by chance, it disappeared.

France is a little better but, profiting from the Italian example, they shut down a pair of days in advance (Italy and Spain shut down when they had less than 8000 recorded cases. France when it had a little over 5000), and that made the difference. US... well. They have already suspasses Italy as number of active cases, and probably will surpass Italy as number of total cases today. Simply the growth of cases that Italy had in three weeks, US had in one, so patients had not the time to die.
