The story of the "Russian steel" never made any sense, and it did upset me every time a supposedly reputable source repeated it. Not only Italy had an overproduction of steel in the '70s-'80s. AUTOMOTIVE STEELS ARE NOT CHOSEN ON THE BASE OF RUST-PROOFNESS. They are chosen for their mechanical qualities. Rust-proofing treatments prevent rust. Not some charateristic of a not-stainelss steel. So, for some mysterious-magical reason, it seemed that this "recycled Russian steel" was perfetly fine mechanically, but was "inferior" in a charateristic that none really searched for.
