  1. That's a second series. The first series was far nicer. BTW "barchetta" ("little boat") in Italy indicates a kind of roadster, with the top cover not existing, or completely disappearing into the bodywork (not simply covered with a soft cover when open, like in the classic British roadsters for example).

  2. 100.000/year is not that great of a number actually. It's the bare minimum to justify a dedicated chassis for a mid/priced car. That's why none jumped on the MX/5 bandwagon. Once that there is one, there is no more space for another. The Barchetta instead, having been done on the Punto chassis, was a niche car, but still profitable. It had been discontinued only for the demise of that chassis.
