It would have been nice, since the Otomatic used off-the-shelf components too (an ubiquitous Otobreda 76mm naval defense gun turret placed on a OF-40 or Leopard I tank hull), was 17km/h faster than the M247, had a 35cm lower shape, and its gun outranged any anti-tank helicopter missile by a considerable margin. By now it would have had guided ammunitions available too.

They would be effective vs. MBTs too (76mm could not seem that much vs. modern MBTs , but the projectiles would arrive practically from the vertical, where tanks are scarcely protected, and kinetic penetrators are not disturbed by modern active defence systems, like the Trophy).

  4. Mind that, today, the Otomatic could have used 40km range guided Vulcano ammos. A kinetic penetrator coming directly form the vertical, a nightmare for any MBT.
