  1. Is not that modern armies fight guerrillas intensively using MBTs that could withstand RPGs. Instead they intensively use wheeled vehicles that are even lighter than the Centauro. Cause MBTs are expensive, manteinance intensive, too heavy for much infrastructures and, even if they are hard to destroy, damaging them means to inflict A LOT of damage to their owners anyway, cause they are VERY expensive to repair, when repairs are possible. They are not fit for the daily work. AND, even if well armoured, MBTs are not really made to stand in the open and take punishment anyway. The employed tactic is almost always to find cover, and shoot from there. It's true that, moving from a cover to another, a Centauro is more vulnerable. But it's faster too.

  3. It had never been the case. What's the point of building a tank destroyer that's capable of penetrating any frontal armor it could possibly encounter, if it degrades it's possibility against the enemy it is really likely to fight? It always existed a "supertank" whose frontal armor could withstand the main armament of the most used enemy MBT, but it had never really made the difference. Not to say that not all the shells hit the frontal armor.

  4. Norman Rashid, you know that, when estimating the possibilities of Arab countries' armed forces, the other armies apply an "arab algoritm" to downgrade them, cause they will surely perform much shittier than they should on paper, like they always did in the past?

  5. Tracked vehicles are made for short battles and long manteinance. The cost for keeping them in working conditions, if they have to travel on their tracks for any appreciable distance is prohibitive, and for what? Left in the open, they are dead meat anyway. If they have to run from a cover to another, a wheeled vehicle does it faster.

  7. The bulk of the foreseeable opposite force will very hardly be composed of the most advanced MBTs available. Even counting Russia as a possible adversary, the main part of the Russian armored forces will be composed of T80 and T90 well beyond 2025.

  8. Run flat tyres. You have to destroy three wheels on the same side to block the vehicle. It's far easier to break the tracks of a MBT.

  9. Any wheeled construction vehicle has anti-puncture tyres (they don't deflate when punctured).

  10. It's actually supposed, only not as its main task. There's a difference between "engage the enemy tanks in a frontal battle" and "there's the possibility to encounter an enemy tank unit during the mission".
