  1. Not all the "vegan leather" is synthetic. Many leather substitutes use some form of vegetal (sometimes even mineral) material.

  3. Leather is more a cheap byproduct. Untanned hide costs less than meat by weight, and much of the hides are not processed because demand is lower than the available material. What you pay in leather is more the tanning process than the raw material.

  4. I love innovation, and hate to be that guy, but the problem I see with your neck strap is that it's double the weight of a leather strap of the same width, for half the strenght. Haven't braided leather belts been invented ages ago to solve the same problem? Depending on the way they are knit, you can have them from very stiff to extremely soft.

  7. There are tons of different alternatives to leather of much different quality. IE "Lorica" exists since the '80s. It withstood the test of time, it's breatheble, more durable than real leather, and resistant to any kind of chemicals. That's why it became a favourite of safety shoes and high-end motorcycle boots manufacturers.
