  1. Ok, that's particularly stupid. "knights rolling up to villages and slaughtering everybody". It's like "knights finding a chest of gold and throwing it into a lake". The villages full of crop-growing serfs were THE PRIZE of those wars. If you roll up to a village and slaughter everybody, that village HAS NO MORE VALUE.
