  1.  @alicelund147  Right hand needs more mobility for using the sword. Also, a right handed person with a pole weapon (always the primary weapon) has his left hand ahead, so the left side is more exposed to hits.

  5.  @jonburgart8649  Every armor is the result of compromises. In this case, the increased mobility of the right arm is considered more important than the decreased protection. Also consider that the armor is meant to be worn with a least an arming doublet, and better a mail shirt. The main weakness of the mail is against blunt weapons, and is difficult to exploit that weakness in that position.
