  1. The key element in ancient times and middle age was the mantle/cloak. Now we almost forget it, but a mantle does GREAT in insulating the wearer from the elements. The Italian Army still used it (altough in a short version, for mobility reasons) in WWI.

  2. Is not that there is little snow in the Alps too. But, if it surely happened that samurais fought in winter and with snow on the ground, it's highly improbable that some samurai wore the armor and fought in three or four meters of snow. There is a limit in what's plausible.

  3. Even in the Italian Appennines, to not say of the Alps this is nothing, but simply is not plausibele that a samurai wore his armour and fought in three or more meters of snow.
