1 Citizen doesn't cater for the collectors. While Seiko continually revives its old glories, Citizen doesn't. 2 Despite having arguably the best mechanical movements in the '60s and '70s, Citizen's lineup is not complete now. it lacks a automatic chronograph for example, and it's high-end movements are not as high-end as the Seiko ones.

The Intramatic is, all in all, a very nice watch. But, when compared with the original 1969 Chron-o-matic (that was the nicest of the Caliber 11 users), it's uglier. The hands, and indexes are both heavier-looking and less clear to read. In the 1969 watch, despite the presence of the date window, the dial was not "busy" at all. It was perfectly clean, because everything was perfectly dimensioned.

I would suggest the new Strela 40mm, powered by the same Seagull ST1901 movement of the Seagull 1963 and of the Baltic. It's visually more akin to the original Strela 3017 of the '60s than the 42mm model and, for just $370 it has sapphire crystal and 100m waterproof ( https://www.poljot24.de/en/chronographen/co40cyb.html ) price-wise I think that's hardly beatable among manually winded chronographs. A watch I think you forget is the Certina DS Podium Automatic, powered by the ETA C01.211 (based on the Lemania 5100), retail price $1060, and is easy to find one for well under $800.

Didn't Seiko and Citizen occupy that nice for ages?
