  1. Pumped hydro has a very low energy density. It needs extremely high quantities of water to store energy. That means its really economic only when the orografy is REALLY favourable, like on the Alps, and to build big dams and reservoirs on alpine valleys poses environmental problems. The efficiency of pumped hydro also is around 70%, slightly inferior to this one.
