What's ironic in this theory is that, even without the massive Cypriot mines, copper is fairly common in Europe. It was tin to be exceedingly rare. Infact, for most of bronze age, arsenic bronze had been prevalent. Only when long-range trade routes had been estabilished, tin bronze replaced it.

Copper is almost never pure. It naturally comes with stones containing arsenic, so the result of ancient smelting is often arsenical bronze. However pure copper was also used. The axe of the Simlaun Man, IE, was made of 99.7% pure copper.
