The most likely reason why the shaft of the arrow that killed him was removed, while the copper axe, his arrows and all of his belongings were left there, is that both the killer's arrow on his body and Ötzi's belongings in the hands of the killer, would have been damning evidencies. Like most murder victims, Ötzi knew his killer. They were of the same community, or from communities very close.

It's possible that he killed someone in a fight, but that sparked an instant manhunt from the victim's relatives, that ultimately found and killed him.

It's well possible he lost, or broke, his own, and acquired an unfinished one, that then he had to finish to his stature and strenght. Calculations made on his bow put the draw weight at 150 lbs, (that means a little more than the most powerful bow found on the Mary Rose) and 1.83m lenght is too much for a 1.60m man (bowmen tend to have the best results with yew bows of about their own height). To finish tools and make arrowheads, at that time, was a way to pass time at night in front of the fire.

His axe was pure copper, not bronze. He died when bronze had just been discovered in near east (he died approximately 3275 BC, Bronze age conventionally started 3300 BC) and had not yet reached Europe. also, for much of the bronze age, exactly because tin is rare in Europe and Middle east, arsenic bronze (arsenic occurs naturally in copper ores) had been prevalent. Tin bronze became prevalent only much later, over a millennia after ötzi's death, when long range trade routes had been estabilished. It had been suggested that the effects of arsenic on the healt is the reason why blacksmits deities are depicted as lame or crooked in several cultures.

The position of the arm across the chest, is very typical of someone that died face up, and whose body had been then turned onto his stomach. A friend of him wouldn't have left him like that.

Because everyone knew who it belonged to. A damning evidence.
