  2. Unfortunately Cesium-137 has a very long half-life for a powerful gamma emitter. The main substitute, the Cobalt-60, has an half-life of only 5.27 years other than being not soluble in water, not easily oxydated, and ferromagnetic (so it's far easier to trace and recover).
