  4. Because they had been hit before, but Italy, unlike any other western country, already reached it's peak, and daily infections and deaths are decreasing. Spain and US are currently having more daily victims than Italy ever had. Spain is going to surpass Italy in total number of victims within the next week US will probably do the same before. For UK it will need more time, but the path is pretty clear.

Some patients had been treated like it was a normal flu, and so the virus entered into the healtcare system. Much of the doctors that had been infected are actually community physicians, not hospitals, doctors. There is a similar hospital, specialised in infectious diseases, in every major Italian city.

  24. @Slumbr Tracks There's no really a "cure" for flu. Antivirals have a limited effectiveness, as they have for coronavirus. The difference is that we are exposed to flu every year, so our immune system is more or less prepared for every viral strain of it, because it has already fought something similar in the past. That's no true for Covid-19.

Spain, that's going to be hit harder than Italy, locked down a week later, at 5678 total cases and 196 deaths. France, that's going to be hit a little less, locked down the same day of Spain, at 4499 cases and 91 deaths. UK, that had not locked down completely yet, is probably going to be hit worse than Italy and Spain. 1 out of 4 covid-19 world cases are in the US and still some state isn't in lockdown. They will be hit at a completely new level in respect to the European countries.

  29. Every Italian major city has at least one specialised hospital for infectious diseases (Cotugno of Naples, Spallanzani of Rome, Amedeo di Savoia of Turin...). Those hospitals are all geared like this, because they are intended to deal with infectious diseases. Standard hospitals don't see often serious infective diseases, and so have less specialised equipment.

Despite having weeks of advantage over Italy and Spain and the further advantage of a fairly low population density, Sweden has the 4th worst death rate in the world, 5 times that of the worse of its neighbours. The "rest of the world" is reopening only after having lowered their daily cases much more than Sweden had.
