Pozzolanic concrete is currently mass produced and, altough it's still not Roman concrete, it already does part of the "magic", being sturdier, more durable, more waterproof, more easily workable and even slightly cheaper than standard portland concrete. The only downside is that it takes more time to cure.

  4. The conditions of slaves in the Roman society was WAY better than that in 19th century US (or other ancient societies). Slaves had right to life (there were punishments for masters that killed their slaves) and personal property, infact a slave could earn enough to buy it's freedom. Above all, the concept was different. American slaveholders reasoned like those ancient Greeks. There are people that are naturally free and people that are naturally slaves. For the Romans instead, slavery was a condition anyone could fall into. There was not an antropological difference between slaves and free people.
