@corndogthemagnificent2212 Actually to hit Aphrodite had been his only real mistake (even if he had been advised to do so by his protectress Athena) since, contrary to Ares, that couldn't hold a grudge for five minutes, and appreciated a guy that could give him a good fight, Aphrodite was pretty vindicative and made so that he was betrayed by his wife, Aegialia, and forced to leave Argos.

Diomedes is my favourite Greek hero since the first time I read the Iliad as a kid. He's not a demigod, he has not god-made superweapons, he's not even that rich (Homer says he had plain bronze weapons, without decorations of gold and silver), he doesn't throw child-like tantrums, he's so cold-minded (contrary to his father, Tydeus, that couldn't stop fighting even when she was dying) that he stops fighting mid-battle to greet an "inherited friend" (their grandfathers had been each-other guest) that was fighting in the other side. He's the regular guy that gets the job done despite anyone around him acting like an idiot. It's cute to see also how Athena has an obvious like for him, probably also because she felt guilty to have let his father die.

It's a ship war between the actual characters. Like: Priam: "I totally ship them" Menelaus: "I DON'T! SHE'S MY WIFE!"

Because Athena is the goddes of strategy and tactic, the intelligent side of war, while Ares is the god of fury and massacre, the beastly side of war.

They couldn't be killed, because they were immortal, but they could be wounded (and feel pain if they were), and even imprisoned by mortals (not easy, since they were all shape-shifters, but it had been done several times in myths).
