The Army had tons of them in stock.

The Italian Navy adopted it, but they didn't need many of them. The Army bought it in some thousands of samples as "mobilitation weapons" (to be stored and used if needed). They had been lastly seen in Afghanistan, abroad the Mangusta helicopters.

It's the Walther that looks like this. The Franchi came out before.
3
It's the MPL that's similar to this.
3
Didn't you watch the video? The LF-57 came out first.

The LF-57 costs much less. The MP5 is used by a lot of special units and small armies of rich nations. The LF-57 was studied to be a mass produced weapon for standard troops.

1957 happened before 1961.
2
The contrary. This had been made before.

@jeromevuarand3768 All the pins holting the trigger group parts are simple rivets.
2
This is the father of the Walther.
2
A machinegun that shoots pistol ammunitions. The Italian and German definitions ("pistola mitragliatrice", "machinepistole" so "pistol-machinegun") are more fitting.
2
The disassembly procedure is not reliant on gravity.

It had been replaced by plastic, that's cheaper.

Ask to Walther. This had been made before.

The MPL looks like this.

You can see one in Total Recall.

Italian.

@J.DeLaPoer Maybe they had been inspired y the look, but the two weapons are different enough to not infringe any patent.
1
It's a simple and effective design, that had been higly appreciated by the users.

The rear sight is dovetailed for windage. For the front one, once the two parts are welded, it only needs a template to file it to the correct height (few seconds of work for a skilled worker). Due to the longer sight radius, the SMG will always be more accurate than a pistol anyway, and at 50m it doesn't need a higher accuracy.

A Walther looks like it.

It's the MPL that looks like this.

All the pins holding the components of the trigger assembly are simple rivets. If you want to dismantle it, you have to de-rivet and then re-rivet it.
1
Yeah. They were issued as emergency weapons to vehicles. Where full size rifles were too bulky. IE to A129 heli crews.

cody sonnet So you think Franchi drafted the LF-57 at the same time it hit the market?
1
cody sonnet So?

Semplicemente all'Esercito non piaceva che il gruppo di scatto non si potesse smontare.
1
The Italian Army didn't like you need to drill the rivets to disassemble the trigger group.
