The Soviets had stamped weapons for decades by the end of WWII, yet they took the German engineers that made the STG44, because they know how to stamp better, yet the AK47 couldn't be stamped the way they would have wanted, it took 12 years of studies to finally obtain the AKM.

@ Modern reproductions of historical weapons have a different set of problems. It's MORE difficult to reproduce a WWII, or earlier, weapon, than designing a new weapon from scratch. Because the people that buy a reproduction expect MODERN DAY reliability and durability from designs that didn't have it in first place. The designer cant' use soluctions that he knows work perfectly, and have to use soluctions that he knows work so-so.

@ A big company, with all the tooling needed for all the parts, and expert people that can solve problems at any stage of the work, can pass from drawings to production in 9 months. There are precedents. A group of friends, that have to outsource parts, and so receive them, test them, give out new, corrected, drawings receive the corrected parts... It's VERY hard, at ANY price.
