@THEBUTCHER1911 And missed, because the taser has a max. range of 10 feet and he was farther. At that point the taser was as dangerous as a water gun. So what was the actual danger for the officers?

@ByGraceThroughFaith777 If it was a lethal weapon, then the cops tried to kill him, since he had been tased with that very same weapon.

He was fleeing holding an already spent non-lethal weapon that, even if not spent, has a maximum range of 10 feet. So what was the actual danger for the officers?

@Chopitup0567 Trice actually. Two hits and a miss.

Glock Coley He was fleeing, so what was the immediate danger of a stun gun for the officers? The purpose of the cops is not to kill who doesn't listen or doesn't promptly obey to them nor you can expect a drunk man to act reasonably.
1
@chinastar1177 They know the suspect didn't have a gun, because they already patted him to search for one, and the taser is of a bright yellow exactly to not be confused with a gun.

Using lethal force to protect yourself from someone that's running away from you holding an already spent non-lethal weapon that, even if not spent, has a max range of 10 feet anyway? Good luck in court, if you are not a cop.

@HTtwentyten You stated: "any citizen would be justified in using lethal force to protect themselves in such a situation." not "I don't know the details of the case".
1
@HTtwentyten Nor in a "stand your ground" state or in a "duty to retreat" state you should have had the right to shoot someone that was fleeing from you.

He was simply sleeping in his car in first place, not driving. He resisted the arrest (justified?), yeah. They knew he was drunk, and you can't expect drunk people to be reasonable. He actually resisted passively. Only after 31 seconds of struggle and, after having been tased, he hit one of the cops once, took the taser from the other (that shouldn't have extract it in first place. By doing so he left the other cop to struggle alone. He was too dependent on his gadgets) and fled. At that point he was fleeing, holding an already spent non-lethal weapon that, even if not spent, has a maximum range of 10 feet. So what was the actual danger for the officers that justified to shoot him three times in the back?
