@djlee3276 So, to you, cops are not supposed to discern guns from tasers? Is a lobotomy part of the training at the Police Academy?

Apparently it is. Has, anyone but a cop, mistaken a gun for a taser and killed someone, he would have been IMMEDIATELY arrested and charged at least for manslaughter within few hours.

@Baconrips Cops are supposed to react to real treats, not projected ones. "policeman" is not a particularly dangerous job (is not even in the top ten, and most dangers for cops are due to car accidents). For some reason it doesn't happen to paramedics to inject air into car accident victims out of stress, or to firemen to smash people's heads with their axes out of stress.

@Baconrips You don't need to guess. What happened, what the cops saw, is all in the camera. After she yelled "taser" he was only covering his head with his arms. There was no immediate treat. Cops are supposed to react to real treats, not projected ones. The REAL situation was a single, skinny, unarmed one vs three fully armed cops, and there was not a single reason to suppose it was otherwise.

@djlee3276 Preferences about the equipment don't change the fact that cops are supposed to be able to discern guns from other objects.

@mrhump6132 "a very stressed induced situation"? Three fully armed cops vs. a single skinny unarmed guy is a "very stressful situation" now? It seems like librarians and embroiderers lives more dangerous lives than cops nowadays. For some reason this kind of stress only sems to affect cops. You don't hear of paramedics injecting air into car accident victims and "my bad, it was a stressful situation", or firemen smashing people's heads with their axes and "ops! sorry, I was very stressed". She mistook the gun for a taser not because she was stressed. Stop using this excuse, please. She did because, being used, like almost all the patrol cops, to use the taser (officially a "less (but still) lethal weapon" to be used in situations of absolute necessity) "lightly" as a cattle prod, or a punitive device for people that didn't obeyed to orders fast enough, she used it without thinking. She didn't mind and she didn't care.
