Read some interesting news on Patriot today in The Economist, their defense guy got access to a UKR Patriot operator who was cleared to talk, that person stated Kinzhal only made one third of the velocity claimed by Russia, so around 3.5 Mach terminal. Ukraine has captured Kinzhal on their radars and has done for a year, so that data most likely found its way Stateside for somebody to crunch the numbers and decided PAC-3 had a capability against it. It makes sense why they made the choice to send the system. If they did not think it was possible they might not have sent the system.

  7. Yes I agree that was probabaly a fragment that punched a hole in the warhead, if the entire mass of a PAC-3 had hit that warhead there would have been nothing to display at all.

  11.  @Mis-AdventureCH  The shape of the warhead, which has a relatively large cross section tells me it was not designed for deep penetration. Rather, with "some" penetrating capability. Deep penetrators are thin, long devices of a small cross section. Granted, the velocity of the weapon will aid penetration but that has to be offset with a very thick warhead casing, as in Kinzhal. The main constraint for penetrators is the deceleration limit for the design.

  19.  @rogerwilco5918  Different missiles, PAC-3 came from FLAGE in 1983 then the ERINT missile. PAC-2 came from SAM-D in 1969.
