  1. Actually the solid fuel motors aren’t the real issue. Tests have shown that its range that is affected when they are used past their use by dates - depending on grain composition and type. And that’s found to be very little. On average 10%. Cracking doesn’t lead to erratic motor performance, it turns out. However there are other components that are more problematic.

Imagine if we had built units 7&8 of the D class… When Diamond is relieved to replenish her VLS, we done have another T-45 available to fill in - that’s why we have sent 2 T-23s with Sea Ceptor - a great weapon but much less capable than Aster, however good enough against subsonic cruise missiles and drones which are the primary threats. Luckily the Houthi ballistic missiles have shown zero capability to strike moving targets at sea.

  3. I would love to see these things happen with T-45 - some of them are in the pipeline. Aster 1NT, BMD capability - drop the 30 mm autocannons for 40mm. Replace the 4/5 with a 76mm Oto Melara or a 57mm cannon. Remove phalanx and replace with RIM-116. Add a 16 cell Mk-41 instead of the mushroom farm for Sea Ceptor - then we can use lots of different weapons instead of only Ceptor. Fantasy fleet I know but the T-31s are showing the way with their fit.

  4.  @stephenobrien5909 you can’t replenish a Sylver VLS underway, that has to be done in port and it takes hours.

  5. Granted, against a peer force but the Houthis aren’t that. Diamond used her guns against some of those drones. So it’s all pretty benign stuff. The Houthis most advanced armed UAVS only have daytime optics.

  6. @@JimCarnershe really needs a 57 mm mount great for anti air. And 40 mm auto cannons instead of those DS-30s. Great for drone work.

  7. @@JimCarnerthe Aster block 1 conversion is underway. The issue that concerns me is countering those MRBMs - the anti ship ballistic missiles. Without ABM capability (Sampson) they could be challenging. I’m glad the USN DSG-51s are there with the “ROTA” fit.
